Privacy Policy

Specly Social ("Specly," "we," "us," or "our") provides an activity-based social discovery experience for adults. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information when you use the Specly website, mobile application, and related support services.

By using Specly, you acknowledge that your information will be handled as described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

Account and identity information:

  • email address
  • authentication state, session tokens, and account identifiers
  • first name, last name, display name, and public handle
  • date of birth for 18+ eligibility and age display
  • password or authentication credentials handled through our authentication providers
  • sign-in method information, such as email/password, Apple, or Google

Profile and discovery information:

  • profile photos
  • bio, occupation, school, gender, religion when you provide it, and languages
  • activities, vibe tags, and availability preferences
  • city, state or region, and country or location preference settings
  • discovery filters and visibility preferences

Social and communication information:

  • hangout intents, request status, accepted connections, and related activity metadata
  • chat messages and conversation activity within accepted connections
  • block lists, hidden or muted users, and safety reports

Purchases and subscriptions:

  • limited purchase, subscription, renewal, expiration, refund, offer code, promo code, and entitlement information from Apple when you buy Specly Plus, Boost, or other paid features

Security and settings information:

  • email OTP verification activity for login and sensitive account actions
  • biometric login preference stored on your device
  • notification permissions and notification preferences on your device
  • privacy settings

Support and operational information:

  • support form submissions, categories, and message content
  • data export requests and account deletion requests
  • records needed to investigate abuse, enforce policies, and comply with law

Device and usage information:

  • limited technical information reasonably necessary to operate, secure, and troubleshoot Specly
  • app interaction data needed for core functionality such as discovery actions and messaging

2. How We Collect Information

We collect information:

  • directly from you when you create an account, complete onboarding, edit your profile, send requests or messages, change settings, or contact support
  • automatically when needed to operate the app, maintain security, sync account state, and support core functionality
  • from service providers that help us authenticate users, host data, store photos, deliver email, and operate the Services

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • create and manage your account
  • verify age eligibility and secure access to the Services
  • show compatible profiles and operate discovery filters
  • send, receive, and manage hangout intents, accepted connections, and chat
  • personalize visibility, availability, and profile preferences
  • operate block, report, moderation, and safety workflows
  • respond to support requests and user inquiries
  • process data export and account deletion requests
  • unlock, manage, restore, and troubleshoot Specly Plus, Boost, and other paid features
  • prevent abuse, fraud, and misuse
  • maintain, improve, and troubleshoot the website and app
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms

We do not sell your personal information.

4. When We Share Information

We may share personal information only in limited circumstances, including:

  • with other Specly users when necessary for the app experience, such as profile details, city-level location context, availability, activities, accepted plan context, and messages within accepted connections
  • with service providers that help us operate Specly, as described in Section 5
  • where required by law, regulation, legal process, or lawful request
  • where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, or integrity of Specly, our users, or others
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to applicable legal requirements

Reports, blocks, support messages, export requests, and deletion requests are treated as private operational records and are not shared with other users as part of the normal app experience.

5. Service Providers

We use third-party providers only where needed to operate Specly. Depending on your use of the Services, this may include:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, file storage, and related backend services, including transactional email for verification and account messages sent through Supabase
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple and In-App Purchases processed through the App Store (StoreKit)
  • Google — Google sign-in, where you choose that sign-in option
  • Vercel — website hosting for Specly legal pages, support pages, and related web content on ruthverse.com

These providers process information on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies where applicable. We do not list providers we do not use for Specly.

6. Location Information

Specly uses city, state or region, and country information that you provide or choose to show. Specly does not require precise GPS location for core discovery in the current release. You can adjust location detail and visibility preferences in settings.

7. Photos and User-Generated Content

Profile photos and other content you upload may be stored with our infrastructure providers and displayed to other users according to your visibility settings and product rules. You should not upload content you do not have the right to share.

Specly may review profile photos and related account information to help detect fake, misleading, inappropriate, or impersonating profiles. We may request additional verification, such as a live selfie, photo review, or other reasonable authenticity checks, to support profile authenticity and user safety. Verification information is used for safety, moderation, and account integrity purposes. Specly does not guarantee that every user's identity, photos, or behavior have been fully verified.

8. Purchases, Subscriptions, and Boost

If you purchase Specly Plus, Boost, or other paid features through Apple, Apple processes your payment. Specly may receive limited purchase, subscription, renewal, expiration, refund, offer code, promo code, and entitlement information needed to unlock, manage, restore, or troubleshoot paid features. Specly does not receive your full payment card details.

9. Notifications

If you enable notifications, Specly may use your device's notification permissions and preferences to deliver on-device alerts for hangout requests, messages, and related account or activity updates while you use Specly. In the current release, Specly does not collect or store remote push notification tokens for server-delivered push. You can manage notification permissions in your device settings.

10. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including service delivery, safety, moderation, dispute resolution, and legal compliance.

When you request account deletion, we process deletion requests and remove or de-identify personal information subject to legal, security, and operational retention requirements.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. Specly uses encrypted transport and provider-managed storage protections.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we determine that a privacy breach triggers a legal notification obligation, we will provide notice as required by applicable law.

12. Your Rights and Choices

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • access personal information we hold about you
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete profile information in the app
  • delete photos or adjust visibility, availability, and location preferences
  • block or unblock other users
  • request a data export from Profile settings in the app
  • initiate account deletion from Profile settings → Delete Account in the app
  • contact us with privacy questions or requests

When you delete your account in the app, we process the request and remove or de-identify personal information subject to legal, security, and operational retention requirements described in this Privacy Policy.

To make a privacy request by email, contact privacy@ruthverse.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

13. Children's Privacy

Specly is intended only for adults 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided information to us, contact us so we can review the matter and take appropriate action.

14. International and Cross-Border Processing

Specly and its service providers may process or store information in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions where we or our providers operate. As a result, personal information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

15. App Store Privacy Disclosures

Apple App Store privacy labels and in-app disclosures describe categories of data collected by Specly, such as contact information, user content, identifiers, usage data, and location information where applicable. Those disclosures must accurately reflect the data collected by Specly and third-party SDKs used in the app. They are intended to align with this Privacy Policy. If there is a conflict, this Privacy Policy governs how we handle personal information.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
